Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill the glass, then discard ice water before pouring.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Knob Creek bourbon, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Add about 6 ice cubes to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker feels very cold and slightly frosty.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

If using a chilled rocks glass, remove it from the freezer or discard the chilling ice water. Place a large ice cube into the glass.

  5. 5

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail from the shaker into the rocks glass over the large ice cube using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh (optional) to remove small ice shards and pulp.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the surface of the drink by holding the twist over the glass and pinching it to release the oils, then run the twist around the rim and drop it into the glass as garnish.

  7. 7

    Serve immediately. Enjoy responsibly.
