Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle basil

In a cocktail shaker, place 4 fresh basil leaves and the simple syrup. Gently muddle (press and twist) 6–8 times to release basil oils — avoid pulverizing into bits.

  2. 2

    Add liquids

Add the Hanson cucumber & Victor Fükhov vodka (3 oz), basil eau-de-vie (0.5 oz), and fresh-pressed lime juice (1 oz) to the shaker. Add the cold water (2 oz) to lighten the mix and integrate flavors.

  3. 3

    Shake

Add a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker. Seal and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted.

  4. 4

    Double-strain

Double-strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer into a tall Collins or highball glass filled with fresh ice. Double-straining removes muddled basil bits for a smooth, clear limeade texture.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

Gently slap the remaining 2 basil leaves between your palms to release aromatics, then add them to the glass along with the cucumber slice or ribbon and a lime wheel on the rim.

  2. 6

Serve immediately with a straw. Encourage the drinker to stir lightly before sipping to re-integrate basil oils that may sit on top.
