Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place an old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and cold water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with plenty of ice, pour 1.5 oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon, 0.75 oz Espolòn Tequila, and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Add 3 dashes of Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Stir

Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–25 full turns) until well chilled and slightly diluted. Use vigorous but controlled stirring to properly chill and integrate the spirits and syrup without over‑diluting.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass and ice

Discard the chilling ice/water from the old-fashioned glass if used. Place a single large ice cube (or 3–4 large cubes) into the chilled glass.

  5. 5

    Strain

Using a julep or strainer, strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the large ice cube.

  6. 6

    Express garnish

Take the orange peel and hold it with the outside facing down over the drink. Give it a quick, firm twist to express oils over the surface, then rub the peel's rim along the glass and drop it into the cocktail as a garnish.

  7. 7

Serve immediately. Optionally, add an extra dash of Angostura bitters on the ice or top of the drink for aroma.
