Preparation

Prepare Ingredients

1. Wash and trim

Wash the fresh turmeric and ginger roots under cool running water to remove dirt. Peel thinly using the edge of a spoon or a vegetable peeler. Trim off any tough ends.

2. Measure liquids and spices

Measure the lemon juice, honey, and filtered water. If using optional spices (cinnamon, cayenne), have them ready. Grind a small pinch of black pepper if not already ground.

Make the Shot

3. Juice or blend roots

If you have a juicer: run the peeled turmeric and ginger through the juicer to extract their juices. If you do not have a juicer: finely grate the turmeric and ginger, then place the grated pulp in a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth and press/extract the liquid into a small bowl. Another method: blend the peeled roots with the measured 2 tbsp filtered water until very smooth, then strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible.

4. Combine ingredients

Pour the extracted turmeric-ginger liquid into a small bowl or measuring cup. Add the fresh lemon juice, raw honey, and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper. Whisk or stir vigorously until the honey dissolves and everything is well combined. If using optional cinnamon or cayenne, add them now and stir to incorporate.

5. Adjust texture and taste

Taste the shot (use a small spoon). If it is too intense, add up to 1 additional tablespoon of water or an extra teaspoon of lemon juice to balance. Adjust honey to your preferred sweetness—add in 1/4 tsp increments. Remember the shot should be concentrated and strong.

Serve and Store

6. Serve

Pour approximately 1 to 1.5 ounces (about one standard shot) into each shot glass or jar. Drink immediately for maximum freshness and potency.

7. Store

Transfer any remaining mixture to a clean glass bottle or jar, seal tightly, and refrigerate. Stored cold, the shot will keep 3–5 days. Shake well before each use, as natural settling will occur. For longer storage, freeze in ice cube trays and thaw a cube when needed.
