Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Spaghetti

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add salt and spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a little pasta water.

Preparing the Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté Garlic

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 4

    Add Spices and Tomatoes

Stir in the red chili flakes, canned crushed tomatoes, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes until thickened.

  3. 5

    Finish with Basil

Once the sauce has thickened, stir in the chopped fresh basil and remove from heat.

Cooking Shrimp and Combining

  1. 6

    Cook the Shrimp

In a separate pan, add a little olive oil and heat over medium-high. Add the shrimp and cook for about 3-4 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.

  2. 7

    Combine Ingredients

Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water as needed.

  3. 8

    Add Toppings

Gently fold in the cooked shrimp, sliced olives, and capers. Mix well to combine all ingredients.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate and Serve

Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
