Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Dough
If using store-bought pizza dough, allow it to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before using. If making your own dough, prepare it according to your recipe and let it rise until doubled in size.
- 2
Prepare the Sauce
In a mixing bowl, crush the San Marzano tomatoes by hand or with a fork. Add salt to taste and mix well. Set aside.
Assembling the Pizza
- 3
Shape the Dough
Preheat your oven to 250°C (482°F). On a floured surface, take the pizza dough and stretch it out into a small round shape, about 10 inches in diameter. Use your fingers to create a slight ridge at the edges for a crust.
- 4
Add Sauce
Spread a thin layer of the prepared San Marzano tomato sauce over the shaped dough, leaving about 1/2 inch at the edges for the crust.
- 5
Add Cheese
Tear the fresh mozzarella into small pieces and evenly distribute them over the tomato sauce.
- 6
Add Basil and Olive Oil
Scatter fresh basil leaves over the cheese. Drizzle the olive oil on top of the pizza.
Baking
- 7
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the assembled pizza onto a baking sheet or pizza stone. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
Serving
- 8
Slice and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice into wedges. Serve immediately and enjoy your Small Detroit Margherita!
