Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the melted butter, the frothy yeast mixture, and the beaten egg. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Mix Filling

In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and chocolate chips. Mix until well combined and smooth.

Croissant Assembly

  1. 6

    Roll Out Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 7

    Cut and Fill

Cut the dough into triangles (about 4-5 inches wide at the base). Place a tablespoon of filling at the base of each triangle and roll it up towards the tip.

  3. 8

    Shape Croissants

Curve the ends of each rolled croissant inward to form a crescent shape and place them on a lined baking sheet.

  4. 9

    Second Rise

Cover the croissants with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Baking

  1. 10

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 11

    Egg Wash and Sprinkle

Brush the tops of the croissants with the egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.

  3. 12

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

  4. 13

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before serving.
