Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center, pour in the yeast mixture and vegetable oil, and mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Filling Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Pork Filling
In a large bowl, mix together the ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, green onions, white pepper, sugar, and salt until well combined.
Assembly and Cooking
- 6
Shape the Buns
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 4-5 inches in diameter.
- 7
Fill the Dough Circles
Place a generous tablespoon of the pork filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the bun.
- 8
Second Rise
Place the filled buns on parchment paper squares and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- 9
Steam the Buns
Bring water to a boil in a steamer. Place the buns in the steamer, making sure they are not touching each other. Steam for about 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
