Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Melt the Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter over low heat. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mixing

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1.5 cups of granulated sugar, 1/2 tsp of salt, and 1/2 tsp of baking powder until well combined.

  2. 4

    Blend Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, 3 large eggs, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 5

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  4. 6

    Add Optional Ingredients

If desired, fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts.

Baking

  1. 7

    Bake the Brownies

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  2. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
