Milk (single-ingredient)

Method

Simple chilled or room-temperature milk

1

Pour 2 cups of whole milk from a clean container into a clean glass or cup. Serve chilled from the refrigerator or at room temperature as preferred.

2

Optional: stir in 1 tsp honey or sugar to taste until dissolved if you prefer sweetened milk.

Warm milk (soothing hot milk)

3

Heat milk

Pour 2 cups whole milk into a small saucepan. Warm over low to medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until small steam wisps appear and the milk is hot but not boiling (between 140–160°F / 60–71°C). This should take about 5–8 minutes depending on stove.

4

Flavor (optional)

Remove from heat. Stir in 1 tsp honey or sugar and 1 tsp vanilla extract if desired. For a spiced version, add 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon and a pinch (about 1/8 tsp) of salt and stir to combine.

5

Let the milk cool slightly for 1–2 minutes, then pour into a mug and serve warm.

Chocolate milk

6

Place 1 tbs cocoa powder and 1 tsp sugar (or honey) in the bottom of a tall glass. Add 1–2 tablespoons of warm milk to make a smooth paste, whisking to eliminate lumps.

7

Gradually add the remaining milk (to total 2 cups), stirring or whisking until the cocoa and sugar are fully incorporated. Chill or serve over ice if desired.
