For the Coffee Mixture

Prepare the Coffee Mixture
In a medium bowl, combine the espresso or strong brewed coffee, coffee liqueur, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved. Set aside to cool.
For the Mascarpone Mixture

Make the Mascarpone Cream
In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until the mixture is thick and pale. This should take about 5 minutes.

Add Mascarpone and Cream
Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until smooth. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
For Assembly

Assemble the Tiramisu
Dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee mixture for about 1-2 seconds, making sure not to soak them. Layer half of the dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish.

Layer the Cream
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers. Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture on top.

Chill and Serve
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and add chocolate shavings if desired.
