Seasoning & Finishing
Side (choose one, ingredients listed for 1 side)
Method
Prepare Meat
- 1
Reheat Pulled Pork / Brisket / Chicken
If using pre-cooked meat, reheat gently to preserve moisture. For pulled pork or shredded brisket: place 0.5 lb in a saucepan with 2–3 tablespoons of barbecue sauce and 2 tablespoons of water or stock. Warm over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through (about 8–12 minutes). For sliced smoked chicken thighs: warm in a skillet over medium heat with 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce or a splash of stock for 5–7 minutes until heated through. Taste and adjust salt and pepper.
- 2
Finish Meat (optional smoky glaze)
Once heated, add 2–3 tablespoons of barbecue sauce to the meat and stir to coat. If desired, finish with a light sprinkle (about 1/2 tsp) of smoked paprika and a pinch of black pepper to enhance smoky flavor. Keep warm while toasting buns.
Toast & Assemble
- 3
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on the cut sides of each bun. Place buns buttered-side-down on the hot surface and toast until golden brown, about 1–2 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- 4
Place warmed meat on the bottom bun (use all or portion to preference; recipe assumes 1/2 lb portion per sandwich). Spoon an additional 1–2 tablespoons barbecue sauce over the meat to ensure sauciness.
- 5
Top the sauced meat with 1/2 to 1 cup prepared coleslaw (for contrast and moisture) or place 4 pickle slices and 2–4 slices red onion if not using coleslaw. Adjust toppings to taste.
- 6
Cover with the top bun and press lightly. Serve immediately with chosen side.
Side Preparation
- 7
Potato Salad
If using prepared potato salad, portion 1 cup and serve chilled or at room temperature. Garnish with a sprinkle of paprika or chopped chives if desired.
- 8
Fries (From Frozen or Homemade)
For frozen fries: bake or fry according to package instructions, typically 20–25 minutes at 425°F (218°C) tossed halfway, until golden and crisp. For homemade fries: cut potatoes into sticks, toss with 1 tablespoon oil and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, bake at 425°F (218°C) for 25–30 minutes turning halfway. Serve hot.
