Method

SPECIALITÃ DELLA CASA

  1. 1

    Prepare and preheat

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly oil a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  2. 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles until al dente according to package instructions, then drain and lay flat.

  3. 3

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic; sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

Add the ground beef and sausage. Cook until browned through; drain excess fat.

  5. 5

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Simmer 25–35 minutes to meld flavors.

  6. 6

Make the bechamel: in a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour to form a roux; cook 1–2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thick and smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.

  7. 7

In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, and half of the parmesan until smooth.

  8. 8

Assemble: spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of the dish. Layer noodles, then ricotta mixture, a drizzle of bechamel, and a portion of mozzarella. Repeat layers, finishing with a top layer of noodles, bechamel, mozzarella, and remaining parmesan.

  9. 9

Bake covered for 40 minutes, then uncover and bake 10–15 minutes more, until the top is bubbly and lightly golden.

  10. 10

Let the lasagna rest 15 minutes before slicing to set the layers.
