1. Prepare ingredients
Rinse fresh basil. Slice ripe tomatoes into rounds about 1/4 inch thick and slice mozzarella cheese into rounds of a similar thickness.
2. Assemble
On a large platter, alternate tomato slices and mozzarella slices. Tuck whole basil leaves between layers or place them between stacks for a vibrant presentation.
3. Season
Lightly sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
4. Dress
Drizzle extra virgin olive oil evenly over the arranged slices. If using balsamic glaze, drizzle a thin line over the top for sweetness and acidity balance.
