Pizza Base and Toppings

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a bowl, mix warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Toppings

While the dough is rising, slice the fresh mozzarella and ripe tomatoes. Set aside.

  4. 4

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes.

  5. 5

    Shape the Pizza

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet.

  6. 6

    Add Toppings

Spread the sliced tomatoes evenly over the pizza base. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them over the tomatoes. Season with salt and black pepper. Add fresh basil leaves on top.

  7. 7

    Bake the Pizza

Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  8. 8

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot.
