Base

Method

Preparation of Base

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted unsalted butter until smoothly blended.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold them together until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

  2. 5

    Bake the Base

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  3. 6

    Cool the Base

Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare Toppings

While the base cools, wash and prepare the fresh berries. Slice strawberries if they are large.

  2. 8

    Serve

Once the base is completely cool, cut it into squares. Top each piece with a handful of fresh berries, a dollop of whipped cream, and a light dusting of powdered sugar. Garnish with mint leaves before serving.
