Measure syrups and flavor
Add 1 1/2 tablespoons simple syrup and 2 tablespoons of your chosen flavor concentrate or syrup into the chilled glass (or a separate mixing vessel). If you want a brighter note, add 1/2 tablespoon fresh lime or lemon juice.

Combine with carbonated water
Slowly pour 22 oz of cold carbonated water over the syrups and ice. Pour gently down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation and reduce foaming.

Stir gently
Use a long bar spoon to stir the soda gently 6–8 times to evenly incorporate the syrup without flattening the carbonation.

Adjust sweetness and flavor
Taste the soda. If it needs more sweetness, add up to 1 tablespoon more simple syrup and stir once. If it needs more flavor, add up to 1 tablespoon more flavor concentrate and stir gently.

Add a citrus wheel to the rim or float it on top. Slap the mint sprig between your palms to release aroma and tuck it into the drink. Drop in a maraschino cherry if desired.

If using bitters, add 2 dashes to the surface and give one gentle stir to distribute the aroma without reducing carbonation.

Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer so the drinker can refresh the soda if the syrup settles.
