Method

Prepare Glass & Ice

  1. 1

    Chill and fill glass

Select a tall Collins or highball glass. Fill the glass with about 1 cup of fresh cubed ice, leaving roughly 1/2 inch from the rim so there's room to pour and garnish without overflowing.

Combine Mixers

  1. 2

    Add grenadine

Pour 1.5 tablespoons of grenadine syrup directly over the ice. Let it settle toward the bottom for the classic layered look.

  2. 3

    Add sodas

Pour 8 fl oz ginger ale into the glass first, then add 4 fl oz lemon-lime soda. Pour gently down the side of the glass or over a bar spoon to preserve some layering effect if desired.

  3. 4

    Brief stir

Give the drink one gentle stir (about 3 slow revolutions) to slightly integrate flavors while keeping a visually appealing gradient from red at the bottom to pale at the top.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

    Garnish

Thread a maraschino cherry onto a cocktail pick and place it on the rim or drop it into the drink. Squeeze the lime wedge lightly over the top to release a few drops of juice, then drop the wedge into the glass if desired.

  2. 6

    Finish

Serve immediately with a straw. Optionally supply extra maraschino cherries and additional grenadine on the side for guests who prefer sweeter drinks.
