For one serving

Method

Classic milk (plain)

  1. 1

    Serve chilled or warm

Pour 1 cup of your chosen milk into a glass (for cold) or a small saucepan (for warm). If serving warm, heat gently over low-medium heat until steaming but not boiling, about 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve immediately.

Chocolate milk (single-serving, quick method)

  1. 2

    Make cocoa paste

In a small bowl or mug, combine 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon granulated sugar. Add 1 tablespoon hot water and stir vigorously until a smooth, lump-free paste forms.

  2. 3

    Combine with milk

Add 1 cup cold or warm milk to the cocoa paste. Stir or whisk thoroughly until fully blended and slightly frothy (about 20–30 seconds).

  3. 4

    Finish and adjust

Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, if using. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar if desired. For iced chocolate milk, add 4 ice cubes and stir to chill.
