Sandwiches

Method

Sandwiches

  1. 1

    Cook aromatics

Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add butter. When butter is melted and foaming, add the finely diced onion and sauté 2–3 minutes until softened and translucent, stirring occasionally.

  2. 2

    Brown the beef

Increase heat to medium-high. Add the ground beef to the skillet with the softened onion. Break it up with a spatula and cook 5–7 minutes until no pink remains and beef is lightly browned, stirring occasionally to create small crumbles.

  3. 3

    Season and saucify

Reduce heat to medium. Drain any excess fat from the pan, leaving a tablespoon of beef juices for flavor if desired. Stir in salt, black pepper, and 2 tablespoons of the mild BBQ sauce; cook 1 minute to combine. Taste and add the remaining 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce if you prefer a saucier mix. Keep warm over low heat.

  4. 4

    Toast buns and assemble

While beef finishes, split the mini hamburger buns and place cut sides down in a separate dry skillet over medium heat or in a toaster oven; toast 1–2 minutes until lightly golden. To assemble each sandwich, place about 1/4 of the beef mixture on the bottom half of each bun, sprinkle about 2 tablespoons (approximately 2 tablespoons = 0.5 cup total divided) of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef if using, and cap with the top bun. Serve immediately.

Fries & Garnish

  1. 5

    Bake or air-fry fries

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) for oven instructions or preheat air-fryer to 400°F (200°C). For oven: spread the 12 oz frozen fries in a single layer on a baking sheet, toss lightly with 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, and bake 18–22 minutes, flipping once halfway, until golden and crisp. For air-fryer: place fries in the basket in a single layer and cook 10–12 minutes, shaking once, until crisp. Cook times vary by appliance—cook to desired crispness.

  2. 6

    Plate and garnish

Arrange the 4 BBQ beef buns on a plate with a serving of fries. Add one pickle spear alongside each sandwich (one spear per plate here—4 spears supplied). Serve ketchup on the side for dipping.
