Stuffed Cabbage Filling

Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Cabbage

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the whole head in boiling water for about 5 minutes, until the leaves are pliable. Remove the leaves and let them cool.

2

Make the Filling

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and parsley. Mix until well combined.

3

Stuff the Cabbage Leaves

Lay a cabbage leaf flat on a clean surface. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the filling at the base of the leaf. Fold in the sides and roll up tightly. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.

4

Cook the Goladki

In a large pot, place some leftover cabbage leaves or a bit of sauce at the bottom (to prevent sticking). Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the pot. Pour tomato sauce over the rolls and add enough water to cover. Cover and simmer on low heat for about 1.5 hours.

5

Serve

Once cooked, carefully remove the goladki from the pot. Serve warm with additional tomato sauce if desired.
