Cheese Preparation

Marinara Sauce

Method

Preparing the Cheese

  1. 1

    Coat the Cheese

Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls. In the first bowl, place the flour. In the second bowl, beat the eggs. In the third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Bread the Mozzarella

Dip each mozzarella stick first into the flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it in the breadcrumb mixture. Ensure each stick is evenly covered. Repeat until all sticks are breaded.

  3. 3

    Chill the Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This will help them hold their shape during frying.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Cook the Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 5

    Simmer

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Frying the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 7

    Fry the Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve the hot mozzarella sticks with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
