Method

Preparing the Doughnut Batter

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then mix in the milk and apple cider until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  4. 4

    Melt Butter

In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter and then fold it into the batter.

Frying the Doughnuts

  1. 5

    Preheat Oil

In a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Shape the Doughnuts

Using a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters, cut out doughnut shapes from the batter.

  3. 7

    Fry the Doughnuts

Carefully place the doughnuts into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

  4. 8

    Drain and Cool

Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Assembling the Dessert

  1. 9

    Add Toppings

Once the doughnuts have cooled slightly, place a scoop of ice cream on top of each doughnut.

  2. 10

    Drizzle Caramel

Generously drizzle caramel sauce over the ice cream and doughnuts.

  3. 11

    Dust with Sugar and Cinnamon

In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the caramel and ice cream.

  4. 12

    Serve

Serve immediately while the doughnuts are warm and the ice cream is cold.
