Cocktail
Optional (for chilling/serving)
Method
Cocktail
- 1
- 2
In a mixing glass, add 2 oz rye whiskey, 1 oz dry vermouth, 0.25 oz Picon Vasco (or Amer Picon substitute), 0.25 oz maraschino liqueur, and 2 dashes orange bitters.
- 3
Fill the mixing glass with plenty of fresh ice and stir briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) until well-chilled and slightly diluted. Aim for a silky, cold texture without over-diluting.
- 4
Discard the ice or water from your chilled serving glass. Strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a julep or hawthorn strainer (fine strain optional if you prefer).
- 5
Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, rub the rim if desired, and drop the twist into the cocktail as garnish.
- 6
Serve immediately. If you prefer the cocktail on the rocks, build the drink over fresh ice in a rocks glass instead of stirring and straining into a chilled stemware.
Optional (ice handling)
- 7
Use large, clear ice for stirring when possible — it melts slower and yields better control of dilution. Replace mixing ice after multiple cocktails to maintain chill.
