Prepare the beer
Pour 12 oz of cold draft lager or ale into a pint glass. Leave a little headroom so the beer won't overflow when the shot is dropped in. Optionally run a lemon wedge around the rim if you want a citrus hint.

Two classic serving methods
Method A (Drop-in): Hold the filled shot glass and either gently drop the shot into the beer glass immediately before drinking, or set the shot on a small tray next to the beer and toss it in. Method B (Sidecar): Sip the whiskey first as a neat shot, then follow with the beer. Both are authentic; choose based on your preference and glassware.

Drink immediately. If using the drop-in method, tip the beer glass up and drink quickly through the mingled shot-and-beer. If using the sidecar method, alternate sips — whiskey then beer.
