Method
Prepare Glass

Mixing
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add gin (1.5 oz), aged rum (0.5 oz), orange liqueur (0.5 oz), amaro (0.25 oz), dry vermouth (0.25 oz), simple syrup (0.25 oz), fresh lemon juice (0.5 oz), Angostura bitters (2 dashes), and orange bitters (1 dash). If using egg white, add 1/2 egg white now.
- 3
Dry shake (if using egg white)
If you added egg white, shake the mixture vigorously without ice for 15–20 seconds to emulsify and create froth.
- 4
Wet shake
Add ice to the shaker (enough to properly chill) and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled and the shaker is cold to the touch.
Strain & Serve
- 5
Discard ice/water from the chilled glass if used. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer (especially if you used egg white) to achieve a silky texture.
- 6
Garnish
Express the oils of the large orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm squeeze. Rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the cocktail. If you want extra drama, briefly flame the orange zest over the drink (carefully) to add a faint caramel aroma.
Barkeep's Whimsy Notes
- 7
This cocktail is intentionally slightly spirit-forward with a balancing touch of citrus, sweet, and bitter — letting the bartender (or you) make subtle swaps: swap gin for a lighter aged tequila for an earthier profile, increase amaro for more bitterness, or omit egg white for a clearer presentation. Adjust simple syrup by 0.25 oz to taste.
