Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Spaghetti

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Prepare the Sauce

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 3

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, fresh basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Optional Protein

  1. 4

    Cook the Shrimp (if using)

In a separate pan, heat a little olive oil over medium heat. Add shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink. Squeeze lemon juice over the shrimp before removing from heat.

Combine and Serve

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Once the sauce is thickened, add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to combine. If using shrimp, add them in at this point.

  2. 6

    Serve

Serve the pasta hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.
