Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare Bread

In a large bowl, combine the cubed French bread and set aside to dry out slightly while you prepare the other ingredients.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the diced onion, diced celery, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and the onion is translucent, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 4

    Mix Ingredients

In the bowl with the bread cubes, add the sautéed vegetables, dried sage, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Toss to combine evenly.

  3. 5

    Add Liquid Mixture

In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken or vegetable broth and the beaten egg. Pour this mixture over the bread and vegetable mixture, stirring gently until the bread is fully moistened.

  4. 6

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Transfer the stuffing mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

  5. 7

    Bake

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
