Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle

In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh mint leaves and the simple syrup. Gently muddle the mint about 6–8 times to release the oils — do not pulverize; you're extracting fragrance, not tearing the leaves to bits.

  2. 2

    Combine

Add the Wheatley Vodka (2 oz), orange liqueur (0.5 oz), Lillet Blanc (0.75 oz), and fresh lime juice (0.5 oz) into the shaker with the muddled mint.

  3. 3

    Shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels very cold and the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted.

  4. 4

    Double-strain

Using both the shaker's strainer and a fine mesh strainer, pour the cocktail into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass to remove mint bits and small ice shards for a clean texture.

  5. 5

    Garnish & finish

Express a lime twist over the drink (or place a lime wheel) to release citrus oils, then lightly slap the mint sprig between your palms to wake the aroma and place it on the rim or floating atop the cocktail. Serve immediately.
