Preparation of Coffee

Brew the Coffee
Start by brewing a strong cup of coffee and allow it to cool to room temperature. If using, mix in coffee liqueur once cooled.
Making the Cream Mixture

Prepare the Egg Yolks
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.

Add Mascarpone
Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.

Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
Assembling the Tiramisu

Soak Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee (with or without liqueur) for about 1-2 seconds to soak.

Layer the Ingredients
In a rectangular dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers, followed by half of the mascarpone cream mixture. Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers and cream.
Chilling and Serving

Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
