Syrups & Base

Method

Syrups & Base

  1. 1

    Prepare fountain base

Chill the carbonated water and club soda thoroughly in the refrigerator before mixing. For a single-batch output (about 8 servings), measure out cola syrup, lemon-lime syrup, and fruit-flavored syrup into a large pitcher or beverage dispenser. Stir gently to combine the syrups into a uniform base.

  2. 2

Slowly add chilled carbonated water to the combined syrups. Stir gently with a long spoon to avoid flattening the carbonation, aiming for a 1:6 syrup-to-carbonated-water ratio (adjust to taste). If you prefer lighter carbonation or a milder flavor, add up to 2 cups of club soda in place of some carbonated water.

  3. 3

Taste the mixture and adjust: add small amounts (1–2 tablespoons) of cola or fruit syrup if stronger flavor is desired, or increase carbonated water/club soda to dilute. Keep the dispenser covered and refrigerated or on ice until serving to preserve carbonation and freshness.

Ice & Garnishes

  1. 4

Prepare serving glasses by filling each with about 1/2 cup crushed or cubed ice (adjust quantity per glass size).

  2. 5

To serve a classic fountain cola: pour about 3/4 cup of the prepared fountain mixture over ice in each glass (this recipe yields roughly 8 servings at ~3/4 cup per serving).

  3. 6

For flavored variations: add 1 tablespoon fruit-flavored syrup directly to an individual glass before pouring the base for a stronger fruit note, or add a squeeze of lemon from a lemon slice for brightness.

  4. 7

Garnish each glass with a lemon slice, a maraschino cherry, and a mint sprig if using. Serve immediately with straws and napkins.

  5. 8

Leftover fountain mixture: keep refrigerated in a covered container and consume within 24–48 hours for best carbonation and flavor. If carbonation decreases, gently re-carbonate by adding chilled club soda to taste when serving.
