Electrolyte Ginger Lemon Tonic

Garnish & Boosters (optional)

Method

Electrolyte Ginger Lemon Tonic

1

Prepare citrus and ginger

Juice the lemons and oranges until you have about 2 cups of combined fresh juice (the recipe uses 1 cup lemon + 1 cup orange). Grate the peeled ginger finely or mince it so it releases flavor easily.

2

Infuse ginger

In a medium heatproof bowl or small saucepan, combine the grated ginger with 1 cup of the cold filtered water. Let it steep for 5–10 minutes at room temperature. If you prefer a stronger ginger flavor, warm gently for 2–3 minutes (do not boil) then cool.

3

Combine base

In a large pitcher, add the lemon juice, orange juice, honey (or maple syrup), sea salt, and baking soda (if using). Pour in the remaining 3 cups of cold filtered water and the ginger-infused water (strain out solids if you prefer a clearer tonic). Stir vigorously until the honey and salt are fully dissolved. The baking soda will cause a little fizz and neutralize some acidity; add only if desired.

4

Adjust flavor and chill

Taste the tonic and adjust sweetness, salt, or citrus balance: add more honey for sweetness, a pinch more salt for electrolyte balance, or extra lemon for brightness. Stir in the fresh mint leaves, bruise them slightly with a spoon to release aroma, then refrigerate the pitcher for at least 15–30 minutes to let flavors meld and chill.

5

Serve

Fill glasses with ice cubes. For a lighter, fizzy drink, pour half tonic and half chilled sparkling water (adjust ratio to taste). Garnish with lemon or orange wheels and a sprig of mint. If you used baking soda and want extra fizz, top with sparkling water carefully.

Garnish & Boosters (optional)

6

Rim (optional): Run a lemon wedge around the rim of each glass and dip in flaky sea salt or chili salt for a flavor contrast.

7

Spice & anti-inflammatory boost: If desired, stir 1/4 tsp turmeric and a pinch of cayenne into the pitcher before chilling for an added anti-inflammatory kick. Turmeric can slightly color and alter flavor—mix uniformly.

8

Final tasting: Before serving, taste one last time and adjust. Serve immediately chilled. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours; stir before serving as separation may occur.
