Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Shine Topping Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Topping

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the cocoa powder, milk, and granulated sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

  2. 8

    Add Vanilla

Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract until well blended.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cake

Allow the topping to cool slightly before pouring it over the cooled cakes. Spread evenly with a spatula to cover the entire surface.
