Method
Making the Doughnut Base
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
- 2
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the mixture should be slightly lumpy.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.
- 5
Fry the Donuts
Using a spoon or a donut cutter, carefully drop the batter into the hot oil. Fry donuts for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Making the Glaze
- 6
Prepare the Glaze
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
Assembling the Donuts
- 7
Glaze the Donuts
Once the donuts have cooled slightly, dip the tops into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off.
- 8
Add Toppings
Immediately sprinkle the glazed tops with chopped pecans and crispy bacon if desired.
