Method

Pickling the Cucumbers

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brine

In a saucepan, combine white vinegar, water, salt, sugar, and dill seeds. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until salt and sugar are dissolved.

  2. 2

    Slice the Cucumbers

While the brine is heating, slice the cucumbers into thin rounds or spears, depending on your preference.

  3. 3

    Pickle the Cucumbers

Once the brine is boiling, remove it from the heat and pour it over the sliced cucumbers in a glass jar. Allow it to cool before sealing and refrigerating for at least 1 hour or overnight.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 4

    Layer the Ingredients

On one slice of Cuban bread, spread 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard. Layer the house-smoked pork, shaved country ham, Swiss cheese, and a few pickle slices.

  2. 5

    Top and Close the Sandwich

Place another slice of Cuban bread on top to close the sandwich. Repeat with additional sandwiches if desired.

Pressing the Sandwich

  1. 6

Heat the Grill or Sandwich Press

Preheat a panini press or a skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, you can use another heavy pan to press down on the sandwich.

  2. 7

    Grill the Sandwich

Place the assembled sandwich on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted.
