Method
Wontons Preparation
- 1
Fry Wontons
In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, gently place the wonton wrappers in the oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Ahi Tuna Preparation
- 2
Sear Ahi Tuna
Brush the ahi tuna steak with olive oil and season with salt, black pepper, and sesame seeds on both sides. Heat a non-stick skillet over high heat and sear the tuna for about 1-2 minutes on each side, until rare in the center. Remove from heat and let rest before slicing thinly.
Korean Slaw Preparation
- 3
Make the Slaw
In a large bowl, combine shredded green cabbage, grated carrot, and chopped green onions. In a separate small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Pour the dressing over the vegetable mixture and toss until well combined. Let sit for 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
Assembly
- 4
Assemble the Dish
On each fried wonton, place a few slices of seared ahi tuna. Top with a generous spoonful of Korean slaw. Garnish with a dab of wasabi paste, a few pieces of pickled ginger, and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
