Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and place them in a bowl.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well. Gradually add water while whisking until the batter is smooth and thick.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep pot or skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 5

    Fry the Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  4. 6

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
