Pie Crust

Method

Pie Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Pie Crust

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Add Butter

Cut the unsalted butter into small pieces and add it into the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. 3

    Add Ice Water

Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough.

  4. 4

    Chill the Dough

Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  5. 5

    Roll Out the Dough

After chilling, roll the dough out on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie pan.

  6. 6

    Fit into Pie Pan

Transfer the rolled dough to the pie pan, trim the edges, and crimp as desired. Set aside.

Filling Preparation

  1. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 8

    Mix the Filling

In a large bowl, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until smooth.

  3. 9

    Add Pecans

Fold in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed.

  4. 10

    Fill the Crust

Pour the pecan filling into the prepared pie crust.

  5. 11

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until the filling is set and slightly puffed. The pie is done when a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 12

    Cool and Serve

Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve with whipped cream if desired.
