For the Onion Rings

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside in a bowl.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Add Sparkling Water

Gradually pour in the cold sparkling water while stirring, until the batter is smooth and has a slightly thick consistency. Let it rest for about 10 minutes.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is ready.

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is evenly coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain the Rings

Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Warm

Serve the onion rings warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or ketchup.
