Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Ramekins

Grease four 6-ounce ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and semisweet chocolate over low heat, stirring until smooth and combined. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.

  4. 4

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  5. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In the chocolate-butter mixture, add the eggs, one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.

  6. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the centers are soft.

  8. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the ramekins for 1-2 minutes.

  9. 9

    Serve

Run a knife around the edges of each ramekin to loosen the cakes. Invert onto individual plates. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with vanilla ice cream and fresh berries.
