Hot Dogs
For serving (optional)
Method
Hot Dogs
- 1
Bring water to a simmer
Fill a medium saucepan with enough water to cover the hot dog(s) by about 1 inch (approximately 3/4 to 1 cup per hot dog). Place over medium-high heat and bring to a gentle simmer (not a rolling boil).
- 2
Heat the hot dog
Once the water is simmering, add the 1/4-lb all-beef hot dog. Reduce heat to maintain a gentle simmer and heat for 4 to 6 minutes, turning once halfway through, until heated through (internal temperature about 140°F / 60°C).

Bun
- 4
If toasting: spread about 1 tsp softened butter lightly inside each split bun. Place buttered side down in a skillet over medium heat or on a griddle and toast 30–60 seconds until light golden and warmed through. Alternatively, warm buns in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes or microwave for 10–15 seconds.
- 5
If not toasting: simply open the bun and warm briefly as desired.
