Method
Preparing the Battered Fish
- 1
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer, whisking until the batter is smooth.
- 2
Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 3
Batter the Fish
Dip each fish fillet into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 4
Fry the Fish
Carefully place the battered fish into the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Preparing the Fries
- 5
Cut the Potatoes
Peel and cut the russet potatoes into thick strips for fries.
- 6
Soak the Fries
Soak the potato strips in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
- 7
Fry the Fries
Heat the oil in another pan and fry the soaked potato strips until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Drain on paper towels and season with salt.
Preparing the Tartar Sauce
- 8
Mix the Ingredients
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, chopped pickles, lemon juice, dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and adjust seasoning to taste.
