Tomato Sauce

Method

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 2

Add the canned whole tomatoes along with their juice to the saucepan. Use a wooden spoon to break the tomatoes into smaller pieces.

  3. 3

Stir in the salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 4

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens.

  5. 5

Once the sauce is thickened, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Remove from heat and set aside.

Topping and Assembly

  1. 6

    Prepare the Toppings

While the sauce is simmering, slice the fresh mozzarella into even rounds.

  2. 7

Wash and gently pat dry the fresh basil leaves.

  3. 8

Once the sauce is ready, spread a generous amount of tomato sauce on a serving platter or individual plates.

  4. 9

Layer the sliced mozzarella on top of the sauce.

  5. 10

Garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve immediately.
