Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Pasta

In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the cavatappi pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Preparing Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to stir until the mixture is smooth and thickened, about 5 minutes.

  3. 4

    Add Cheeses

Reduce heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese and cream cheese until melted and combined. Season with salt and black pepper.

Combining and Baking

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked cavatappi pasta to the cheese sauce, stirring until the pasta is evenly coated.

  2. 6

    Prepare Topping

In a small bowl, mix together breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and melted butter until well combined.

  3. 7

    Assemble and Bake

Transfer the mac and cheese to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

Making Garlic Toast

  1. 8

    Prepare Garlic Butter

In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic.

  2. 9

    Toast Bread

Spread garlic butter on each slice of bread. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes or until golden and crispy.
