Method

For the Beignets

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead and Rise

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Shape and Fry

Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into squares and heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry the beignets in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar.

For the Praline Caramel Sauce

  1. 4

    Prepare the Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt granulated sugar until it turns a deep amber color. Carefully add heavy cream and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in butter, chopped pecans, and vanilla extract.
