Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the mafalde pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and reserve a cup of pasta water.
- 2
Prepare the Sauce
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes; sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Add the crushed tomatoes, olives, and capers to the skillet. Stir to combine, and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- 4
Mix Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained mafalde to the sauce, tossing to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water until the desired consistency is reached.
- 5
Finish with Basil
Tear the fresh basil leaves and sprinkle them over the pasta. Season with salt and black pepper to taste, and toss again.
- 6
Serve
Serve hot, garnished with additional basil if desired.
