Cake Directions
- 1
Prepare the Caramel
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 1/2 cup of butter and 1 cup of brown sugar until it forms a smooth caramel. Pour this mixture into a greased 9-inch round cake pan.
- 2
Arrange the Apples
Layer the sliced apples over the caramel in the pan, making sure to cover the bottom evenly.
- 3
Make the Cake Batter
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the remaining 1/2 cup of butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- 4
Combine Dry Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter over the apples in the cake pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool and Serve
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a plate. Serve warm with salted caramel fudge and a scoop of vanilla gelato.
