Cocktail
Garnish & Sidecar
Method
Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass
If desired, chill a martini/coupe glass by placing it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or by filling with ice water while you prepare the drink.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz vanilla-infused Cirrus vodka, 1 oz Passoã, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz passion fruit purée (or pulp), and 0.25 oz vanilla simple syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink.
- 3
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) to just cover the liquid. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is well-chilled and you feel condensation forming on the outside.
- 4
Double strain
Remove the ice from your chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or just the Hawthorne if you don't have a fine strainer) to remove ice shards and any seeds from the passion fruit.
- 5
Finish
Place half a fresh passion fruit in the drink (shell-side up) as garnish, letting the pulp sit on the surface for aroma and presentation.
Sidecar & Serve
- 6
Pour 3 oz of chilled Prosecco or Champagne into a separate small flute or pour into a small pitcher. Serve it alongside the martini as the classic 'sidecar' so the guest can sip or alternate between the sparkling wine and the cocktail.
- 7
Present: carry the martini and the sidecar together. Optionally instruct the guest they may float a small splash of the sparkling wine into the cocktail for a fizzed variation, but traditionally the sidecar is served separately.
