Bloody Mary Mix (makes about 8 cocktails)
Garnishes and Bar Items
Method
Bloody Mary Mix (make ahead)
- 1
Combine liquids and seasonings
In a large pitcher or container (at least 64 fl oz capacity), pour 48 fl oz tomato juice, 1 cup fresh lemon juice, and 1 cup fresh lime juice. Add 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish, and 2 tablespoons hot sauce. Stir to combine.
- 2
Season and balance
Add 2 teaspoons celery salt, 1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Whisk thoroughly until sugar and salt are dissolved and spices are evenly distributed. Taste and adjust: add more hot sauce for heat, more Worcestershire for umami, or a touch more sugar if too acidic.
- 3
Chill and meld
Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, so flavors meld. If needed immediately, refrigerate for 30 minutes and give another stir before serving.
- 4
Optional straining
If you used fresh-squeezed citrus with pulp and prefer a clear mix, strain the mix through a fine mesh sieve into another container. Otherwise leave as-is for a rustic texture.
Set up the Bloody Mary Bar
- 5
Prepare garnishes on a tray or in small bowls so guests can build their own drinks: place green olives, cornichons, pickled pearl onions, cocktail shrimp, celery stalks, lemon and lime wedges, and cocktail skewers in separate dishes.

Provide instructions for guests (optional): Suggest a standard drink ratio — 4 to 6 fl oz bloody mary mix to 1.5 fl oz vodka over ice. Encourage taste adjustments: squeeze extra lime/lemon, add hot sauce, or stir in extra horseradish.
- 9
Serve: Fill a highball or pint glass with ice, add vodka if desired, pour 4–6 fl oz bloody mary mix over ice, stir gently, and garnish with a celery stalk, an olive and cornichon on a skewer, and a lemon or lime wedge. Offer extra condiments (hot sauce, cracked pepper) at the bar.
