1. Start by measuring 18 grams of espresso coffee beans using a kitchen scale for accuracy.
2. Grind the coffee beans to a fine consistency using an espresso grinder. The grind should be fine but not powdery.
3. Prepare your espresso machine by ensuring it's clean and preheated. Place the portafilter on the scale and add the ground coffee, leveling it off with a flat edge.
4. Tamp the coffee grounds evenly and firmly using a tamper to create a compact puck.
5. Lock the portafilter into the espresso machine and start the brewing process.
6. Allow the espresso to brew for approximately 25-30 seconds. You should aim for about 60 ml of espresso output for a double shot.
